NEW YEAR!

9e1d3ea6d6857cb750af40c1fd215e8aWow, well another year down. How crazy is that? Everything is just flying by so quickly. I wish we could all pause for a second, take a look at our surroundings, take a deep breath, and then return to the real world because I cannot keep up.

Life is crazy if you think about it. We all have these set schedules, and never seem to have time to take a breath and realize how lucky we are to get through another year. Another year of what could have been full of love, heartbreak, loss, and triumph. But it is another year, and you are still kicking.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every day should be a great day, this new year. Make the most of it and fight your battles, because there are many other people in the world who are worse off than you are.

My New Years resolution is that I am going to help more. I am going to use the free time that I have to make a difference in other peoples lives. And it can be the smallest thing, like sending someone a nice message, or going out of the way to hold the door for someone. Nothing extravagant, but still helpful.

A while back, Bare and Me participated in a “30 Days of Kindness” where we went around each day and did something for someone, that would hopefully end up putting  a smile on their face. We loved doing that so much, not only because we were making other peoples days, but because we truly could see how wonderful people truly are. By doing something kind for something else, we were able to spread happiness all over, by keeping it going. Many other people were inspired by our acts of kindness so they started doing it for themselves as well.

What I hope is that each and every one of you reading this will make helping other people a priority this new year. Take a couple minutes out of your day and do something that will stand out to someone else. I swear to you it is the best feeling.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Cheers to you! Another Year gone… Is it what you hoped for?

Well, another year has passed us bye.

Have you said everything you needed to say, done all of the things you wanted to do?

Cheers to you! Another Year gone… Is it what you hoped for?

Well, another year has passed us by.

Have you said everything you needed to say, done all of the things you wanted to do?

Me, I always try to say and do everything I set out to do but we all leave some things unsaid or undone or take the ones we “love” for granted. I for one want to change this in #2015.

Top 10 Things I want to do:

I want to live a simple life.

I want to be kind and compassionate for things I do not understand.

I want to live everyday as if it is my last.

I want to love unconditionally.

I want to not judge.

I want to be better at what I love.

I want to be a better someone.

I want to help more people just because.

I want to travel to places I have never been.

I want to be less into what I need and more of what others need.

Top 10 Things I want to say:

I want to say I understand and mean it.

I want to say NO more often.

I want to YES more often.

I want to say YES to jumping out of an airplane.

I want to say “i love you” more often.

I want to say “I am proud of you”.

I want to say “i can do that” and do it.

I want to say “really” can you re-phrase that please!

I want to say “be all you can be” to the ones that really need it.

I want to say what I feel all the time…

I think this list of mine is obtainable and I recognize the things I want to be better at and the things I want to say more often. I want to be the person that always says how she feels when she feels it. I want to live an authentic life and be meaningful to the people I love and the ones that love me. We often overlook the good and happy things in our lives and often take it all for granted. If we look at what we have and build on the future with these solid ideals, we can do anything, be anything and achieve everything…

Definition of “taking for granted:

to accept without question or objection; assume: Your loyalty to the cause is taken for granted. to use, accept, or treat in a careless or indifferent manner:

To give little attention to or to underestimate the value of, to fail to appreciate.

Synonyms:

Trust, rely on, accept, accredit, admit, attach weight to, be certain of, be convinced of, be credulous, be of the opinion, buy, conceive, conclude, consider, count on, credit, deem, fall for, give credence to, have, have faith in, have no doubt, hold, keep the faith, lap up, place confidence in, posit, postulate, presume true, presuppose, reckon on, regard, rest assured, suppose, swallow, swear by, take as gospel, take at one’s word, take for granted, take it, think, trust, understand.

Antonyms:

Abandon, deny, disbelieve, discard, dismiss, dispute, disregard, exclude, forget, ignore, neglect, refuse, reject, distrust.

I wish all of you love, happiness and the best life has to offer in #2015.

Just remember taking people for granted in your life is the one thing that you should recognize and change in 2015.

2015 Design Trends

Now that we have adjusted to the design trends that are dwindling away, it’s time to upgrade our spaces with just a few items that will have you feeling fresh. It’s safe to say that our living spaces affect the way we present ourselves and how we live out our daily lives. For those of you that have New Years Resolutions, having a space that you love will help you accomplish who you want to be, what you want to change, and keep your resolutions in check the entire year.

Simplicity. The first trend you are going to see is simplicity. I do not mean minimalism. I mean using tone-on-tone throughout the space. In the photo below, you can see the simplicity in the design, yet it doesn’t look “sterile.” Just clean, comforting, warm, and inviting. The designer used a palette of grays while mixing in a few different tones and textures to create interest.

Bold Color and Pattern Mixing. This is almost the opposite of the first trend but still is considered a big trend this year. Designers and clients are not afraid to use color, and not just create an accent wall, but bold color throughout a space. Some colors trends that you are going to see this year are stunning olive greens, bold cobalt blues, and bright turquoise. Personally, I am a fan of cobalt blue throughout a space. Bold color also goes hand-in-hand with bold pattern mixing. Most spaces that you’ve seen throughout 2014 had a neutral color with a couple patterns thrown in. Get ready to get creative and colorful this year, while still achieving a styled, well put together space.

Juxtaposition. One of my favorite things to do throughout design, is to create juxtaposition in choice of materials and product. Mixing old or classic pieces with new or contemporary pieces create a space that is different. Taking a classic Queen Anne chair and upholstering it with a contemporary fabric or having a contemporary living room with an oil portrait painting, creates an interest that the mind wouldn’t normally pair together. Classic or traditional design styles with a twist of contemporary accents will be a favorite trend of mine this year.

OUT with the OLD & IN with the NEW 2015 DESIGN TRENDS

It is time to ring in the New Year with our favorite 2015 interior design trends! What better time to change up your living space than January 1st, 2015. Maybe you have been thinking about giving your home a “spacelift.” Let’s start this New Year off right and get our living spaces in check, so that we can accomplish our personal goals this year!

This year we are going to see a lot of change in color, texture, and pattern. But before we talk about what trends are knocking on our front door, let’s talk about those 2014 design trends that are on their way OUT the back door.

1. Honey toned woods. Elle Décor predicted that these light, honey toned woods, would leave us feeling “fresh”. If what they meant by “fresh” was dull, then they were right.

2. Pastels. As Christos Prevenzanos, LA Interior Designer, said in 2014, using pastels in a living space is a “Monet meets Molly Ringwald” combo. First of all, if you had to google her name to find out who she is, she is probably not the best to compare to a design trend. Once you do google “Molly Ringwald” you’ll see the last TV/film that she was in was “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Enough said.

3. Hair & Hide. Somehow, we have let animal fur and skin crawl onto our living room floors, sit in our chairs, and hang on our walls. I remember my Grandfather hanging his kill on the wall 20 years ago and thinking it was cool. According to CNN, we can’t even trust that the “faux” fur is even fake anymore. Apparently it is less expensive to use rabbit hair than to manufacture the hair. Animal Rights aside, I think it is safe to say that you can store the cow hide area rugs for the Ice Age.

4. Overstuffed Sofas & Beds. Personally, I am sad to see this trend go this year as I was obsessed with throw pillows. Ask my fiancé! Every trip to target or home goods was an excuse to buy more throw pillows. However, this year is all about simplicity. One or two pillows on the sofa is not overwhelming, but the unwarranted mountain of down and feathers incased within a pretty fabric, is just too much for 2015 to handle.

5. Keep Calm & Carry On. This is BY FAR my favorite trend of 2014 to kick in the ass! (Excuse my French!) But I can’t handle it anymore and neither can 2015. These tacky signs that remind us every day to keep our cool remind me of my fiancé telling me to calm down when we are arguing. Don’t ever tell a woman to calm down! Instead of these unappealing signs, put up a real piece of art. DIY Project!

Check back tomorrow to find out what trends are taking these suckers place…

5 Things

On a day like today, all I want to do it cuddle up, drink hot chocolate, and watch movies all day. Unfortunately, the weekend is over, and it is back to the real world.

It is always hard getting up on Monday morning, and I of all people complain about it..but what we all need to realize is that we are all lucky to have another day worth living.

Here is a list of ten things we should all be thankful for, even on the worst of days.

1. It is such a wonderful blessing to wake up another day, and take that first breath of fresh air. To look outside and see life everywhere is a true reward and we always seem to forget that.

2. We always seem to “hate our ex’s” but in reality, they have only made us the people we are today. Instead of bashing them and regretting the life you had with them, thank them for helping you grow and better understand who you would like to be with in the future.

3. Those annoying parents that you always seem to complain about? Those people brought you into this world, and understandably, at times they might be rough around the edges, but they love you. Just remember, it could be worse. I always find myself making snarky comments to my parents, and feeling awful about it later. Life is too short to hurt the people that you love, so never take them for granted.

4. The mistakes you cannot seem to get past. Certain mistakes that you have made in the past might have brought out certain characteristics that you might dislike or like about yourself. Those mistakes have molded you into the person that you are, regardless of how much you hate the sound of that. Mistakes have to happen or else you would never grow up or mature.

5. The silly fights that always get under your skin. As annoying as it may be, a little fighting every once in a while shows that you do have feelings, and that you do care. If nobody ever fought, we would live in a world of lies. People need to disagree. People need to have differences. Because from those disagreements and differences comes resolution, and resolution rocks!

Life is far better than I, and many others, deserve. Keeping track of what I am thankful for helps me put a lot of things into perspective. Hopefully from this, you too, can reminisce on what and who you are thankful for.
