Healthy Me

One of my New Years Resolutions was to get myself back into tip top shape for this upcoming summer. I have been going to the gym and focusing on things the make myself stronger. I noticed that my body is always hurting when I do not take care of myself, so being in and out of the gym almost every day has been the best possible thing for me. I can slowly feel myself getting stronger, and it is the absolute best possible feeling, especially during this cold winter. Now that I have been consistently stretching and keeping my muscles warm, I have felt so great. I am not as tired, and I always am ready to run around and have some fun. Last year I napped way too much because my body was always tired, and my head was not in it. Now, things are getting a lot easier for me. A lot of the stuff I have been doing do not require extra weights or going to the gym, so you dont need a gym membership or spend money.

d29230421e837c7cc6947e2fd7b183b6 faa1886dc7c614dc3677628d0d1d4a5dBoth of these workouts are simple and do not require a lot of time. I know that many of you are busy,  and never can really find the time for yourself to get to the place where you want to be physically. These workouts, if done correctly, take up to 5 minutes of your day. Right when you wake up in the morning and before you head to work you can do these, or right before you go to bed every night.

Consistency is key when you are doing small workouts like these. I know when I first started doing them, the next day I would be terribly sore and would not want to do it again. But now that I am passed the soreness, I just want to get better and better. Once you get into the rhythm of things, it will only feel natural for you to work yourself out.

I always had soccer to fall back on when I didn’t feel like working out. I always knew that I would get a good workout from running down the field, so I never worked out outside of it. I always relied on it. Now that I am done playing soccer, I need to keep myself healthy. This has been a great start to the beginning of a new me! A new and healthy me!!!!

Home for the Holidays

creamcheesecookies-19

One of the biggest things I miss about being home is the smell of my house. I am pretty sure my mom has something baking or on the stove at all hours of the day, because that is just who she is. She has a knack for cooking and baking, and someday I hope I am as talented as she is.

My favorite is when I come home and I smell cookies baking in the oven, especially around the holidays.

So for this post, here is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe found on pinterest!

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened (use cream cheese in a block or spreadable, don’t use fat-free, light or whipped)
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch salt, optional and to taste
2 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks (I used 1 cup chips and 1 1/4 cups chunks)

DIRECTIONS:

To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter, cream cheese (measure it by smooshing it into a 1/4-cup measure), sugars, egg, vanilla, and beat on medium-high speed until well-creamed, light and fluffy, about 5 minutes (or use an electric hand mixer and beat for at least 7 minutes).

Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, optional salt, and mix until just combined, about 1 minute.
Add chocolate chips and chunks, and beat momentarily to incorporate, or fold in by hand.

Using a medium 2-inch cookie scoop, form heaping mounds (I made 28). Place mounds on a large plate, flatten mounds slightly with your palm, cover with plasticwrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 5 days, before baking. Do not bake with warm dough because cookies will spread and bake thinner and flatter.

Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with a Silpat Non-Stick Baking Mat or spray with cooking spray and place mounds on baking sheet, spaced at least 2 inches apart (I bake 8 cookies per sheet). Bake for 8 to 9 minutes, or until edges have set and tops are just beginning to set, even if slightly undercooked, pale and glossy in the center. Do not bake longer than 10 minutes as cookies will firm up as they cool (The cookies shown in the photos were baked with dough that had been chilled overnight, allowed to come to room temp for 15 minutes, and were baked for 8 minutes, with trays rotated at the 4-minute mark. They have chewy edges with soft, pillowy centers). Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing and transferring to a rack to finish cooling.
Cookies will keep airtight at room temperature for up to 1 week, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Alternatively, unbaked cookie dough can be stored airtight in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, so consider baking only as many cookies as desired and save the remaining dough to be baked in the future when desired.

This is not an original recipe, although I wish it was.

Milestones…

Today as I was wondering what to write, I was looking at our statistics and I am pleasantly surprised and shocked really. When I decided to start this blog, I really thought I was going to use this as a platform to sell our jewelry designs not write. I hired my daughters best friend Haley to write articles for me because I thought: Who really cares what I have to say!

Turns out, I love to write just about anything. Most of us our creatures of habit, stay within our daily routines or just go day by day through this life. This blog Bare and Me really made me step out of my comfort zone and look at life differently and yes share feeling I normally keep private.

It has been since July 2014 that we (Haley and I) wanted to do something fun, different and be honest about our feeling and daily life. I think we have done that and we show ourselves in a quirky, funny and maybe just a little obsessed with fashion and love. We have written about love, sadness, travels and do-gooder ideals but mostly we write about what we feel right then…

Today we hit over 10,000 views and we have 3152 followers. Just a little over 30% of the people who read our articles want more. That is a pretty good percentage. Reaching 1/3 of people is a very hard thing to do, especially when you write about everything, not just one subject. The other surprising thing is, we have more than 50% of men that follow us. Really? That is crazy, they want to know about love and fashion as well or maybe just what we will say next. I obviously will say anything, it’s a problem but I do curb it for my writing. In person, it just flows right out and gets me in a ton of trouble at times. Being 47 I think I have earned my right to be non-filtered. I would never say anything to hurt anyone or intentional say something that would offend someone but the one thing I have learned, someone is always offended by something. You can never please everyone and someone will always have an opinion. I love that…

This by far has been one of the most liberating things I have ever done. Thank you to all who put up with our silliness and in the future we hope to bring more of our craziness…

5 Tips to help you run a successful business…

I am not the expert on success but what I am an expert on is “working hard”!

I do not work for money, I work because I love what I do. I have a few tips to help you find success in your life that translates to accomplishment in your financial life.

1. Find what you love…

That could mean, you love people.

You love to invest money.

You love the rush of jumping out of a plane. (Cray, Cray people)

You love to write.

*Find a way to JUST DO IT!

2. Develop a plan…

Look, dreaming about doing something in your head will never get you anywhere, it’s a dream. Take that dream out of your head and put it on paper. It may take you weeks to figure out exactly what that dream is on paper but it developes into a plan with out you even realizing it. It is your roadmap.

3. Do not work for money…

The minute you start your roadmap and all you can think about is “money”, it will never work. You have to think of this as a labor of love and “love is in the details”. Sometimes when the main focus is money, you look at it like; what is the fasted way I can accomplish this? Wrong approach. There is “no overnight success” and if there is, it is very rare.

4. If you can, always own your own business…

Work for someone else, develop your plan in baby steps. Leave, take your chance on yourself…

Doing something right is the most important thing you can do. Make everyday, a day forward to where you will be working for your own business and loving what you do.

5. Work Hard and I mean hard…

My husband often asks me: Do you really need the money that bad?

Note: We own and operate several restaurants in MD, VA. They are successful because we worked for 10 years very hard. The first 5 years, my husband worked 18 hours a day, one day off. I did all of the financials from home to raise our children. Was it my dream? No, it was my husbands, so I worked as hard as him to help him achieve this life long dream of owning and operating a business to be proud of.

My dream was to be a jewelry designer. I have designed for 15 years but just did shows here and their. I knew I was talented because I loved it and I sold everything out every-time.

I taught myself day and night new techniques and would just sit for hours upon hours creating these little sparklers. I love what I do and very big things are happening for our little train that could.

The truth is; I do not do this for the money, I do this because I am involved in so many of life’s special moments it is unreal. My jewelry is worn, loved and passed along as gifts, moments in time to be remembered.

Like a Bride designing a necklace for her “bridesmaids”. (They will always remember, where/how/who gave this to them.) It’s almost like a song that brings you back to a very special moment or a place in time.

A wife purchasing a “love link” bracelet for her husband that shows her devotion and love to him.

A friend who purchases our Initial birthstone necklace for a new mother to be. Emotional, loving and I get to be there without being there.

A Mother who designs a “keepsake” necklace for her daughter that has her initial on one side and the daughter on the other. Cherished for life.

I want to create and be part of memories in people’s lives. It makes me happy and fulfilled….

Have you just ever felt like this?

We all have days where we feel like the world is caving in on us, don’t we?  Sometimes,  I feel like I am the only one. To be honest, usually I am “happy-go-lucky” all the time. In fact, my husband always looks at me in times of trouble and says “you just don’t have a care in the world”!  Always perplexed with him looking at me like that, I just node, laugh and say no! I have always looked at things as if they were meant to happen and it is all in how you handle it. I am very good under pressure, I always have been but this week, I just want to pull my hair out.

Here, let me explain…

1. Leaving a house I grew up in since I was a child.

 2. Being self-employed, the bank is driving me crazy.

  3. A good friend will not speak to me and I don’t know

what I did?

4. My daughter is getting married…

5. Everyone wants something from me.

6. My house is a cluster f@%k with furniture, lighting

and accessories for the new house everywhere.

That is why I feel like this…

10732030_539097489568292_1517753356_n

But…

Unknown-6

These are all the great things that come out of the bad…

1. My daughter and her fiancé are moving into the house I grew up in…

2. We are blessed beyond belief to have what we have…

3. Maybe that friend is not worth the aggregation if they

do not have the time or patience to explain why… a blessing in disguise…

4. My daughter is getting married to her perfect guy…

5. At least someone wants something from you and you are not alone…

6. Well, that I need a magic wand, it is still a cluster f@%k…

There is always a silver lining in life. Don’t forget to remember that when your hands are in your hair and you want to scream and hit your head against the wall:)
