GRAY IS THE NEW BEIGE!

  1. a pale sandy yellowish-brown color.
    “tones of beige and green”
synonyms: fawn, pale brown, sand, buff, sandy, oatmeal, khaki, biscuit, coffee, coffee-colored, cafe au lait, camel, ecru

Is anyone else tired of this lack-luster, mind-numbing color we call beige? I know I am and I am ready for the HOTTEST color this year…GRAY! Gray is such a versatile color and has a wide range of hues, shades, and tones that create different sensations within a space. Gray can be used to create a glamorous, calming, or edgy space. The wide range of warm and cool grays compliment beautiful colors such as blush, yellow, red, white (some of my favorites). It can be used in a classic, transitional, or modern design! What do you think about gray? Milestones…

Today as I was wondering what to write, I was looking at our statistics and I am pleasantly surprised and shocked really. When I decided to start this blog, I really thought I was going to use this as a platform to sell our jewelry designs not write. I hired my daughters best friend Haley to write articles for me because I thought: Who really cares what I have to say!

Turns out, I love to write just about anything. Most of us our creatures of habit, stay within our daily routines or just go day by day through this life. This blog Bare and Me really made me step out of my comfort zone and look at life differently and yes share feeling I normally keep private.

It has been since July 2014 that we (Haley and I) wanted to do something fun, different and be honest about our feeling and daily life. I think we have done that and we show ourselves in a quirky, funny and maybe just a little obsessed with fashion and love. We have written about love, sadness, travels and do-gooder ideals but mostly we write about what we feel right then…

Today we hit over 10,000 views and we have 3152 followers. Just a little over 30% of the people who read our articles want more. That is a pretty good percentage. Reaching 1/3 of people is a very hard thing to do, especially when you write about everything, not just one subject. The other surprising thing is, we have more than 50% of men that follow us. Really? That is crazy, they want to know about love and fashion as well or maybe just what we will say next. I obviously will say anything, it’s a problem but I do curb it for my writing. In person, it just flows right out and gets me in a ton of trouble at times. Being 47 I think I have earned my right to be non-filtered. I would never say anything to hurt anyone or intentional say something that would offend someone but the one thing I have learned, someone is always offended by something. You can never please everyone and someone will always have an opinion. I love that…

This by far has been one of the most liberating things I have ever done. Thank you to all who put up with our silliness and in the future we hope to bring more of our craziness…

f8be666324510abc90bc519cfd4b38ce

Not really sure how many of you decided to suit up for war on Friday, but I am a lover for Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is the toned down version of Black Friday, because who wants to run through a mall with a bunch of other crazy people. Friday I did not really have anything to do, so I decided to make my way over to the mall. I didn’t really have anything in particular that I was looking for, so I feel like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I was a wanderer, and on a day as popular as Black Friday, you are screwing yourself.

I cannot tell you how many times I got bumped, cussed at, and pushed out of the way. People are crazy man. I tried to stand my ground but girlfriend is too easy going. I got one dress, my boyfriend a jacket, and then I hit the road. I was in and out of there like it was a race.

Now its Cyber Monday. You can sit at your computer, in your jammies, sip on some coffee and order some awesome things. The beauty in it all? You do not even have to move. I mean come on people, how wonderful is that? Cyber Monday and online shopping are just wonderful things, and I always look forward to this day? It is the perfect time to order Christmas gifts and an additionally twenty things for yourself….KIDDING!

So put your big girl panties on, make a list of things you need (want), and get on those websites because I will tell you millions of other people are ready to go. Do not miss out on those awesome prices!! GO GO GO!

Modern and timeless interiors captured by harmonizing period pieces, traditional and transitional furniture, raw wood, organic shapes and tropical touches to create spaces that feel unencumbered and relaxed. Glamour that is disarmingly functional and practical.

My philosophy, bringing the outdoors in through natural elements, mixed with modern, traditional, and the unexpected create a serene home that stands the test of time and good taste.

Well, let me introduce you to my best friend since the second grade…

WE have been through just about everything together in the last 40 years. The heartbreak of loss, life’s joys and  struggles but most importantly, standing beside each other through everything. I can not express the gratitude I feel just knowing her. Her love of beauty, creativity and sense of style just astounds me.

This is the type of relationship that stands the test of time. You know, the kind where you don’t see each other for a long while and once you are together you don’t miss a beat. The fate type of relationship, SISTERHOOD.

We spent our “Thanksgiving” together like we have done for countless years. Our children also have friendships that will last forever. Her first three are the same ages as mine and have spent countless hours with each other over the period of 24 years.

While she was here in Maryland, she made my new house a home with her glorious floral arrangement. It’s hard to achieve this when you are newly moved into a home with the “Holidays” in your face but she with a few clicks of her branch cutter, floral ideas and most importantly her quick paced mind, she put these together like a whirl wind of magic…

I love this about her 20 things going on in this pretty little mind but makes each and every decision with guided intuition, love of beauty but most importantly with “mad” creativity…

Her designs just want to make you stare in glorious delight…

THANKSGIVING FESTIVITIES!!

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I have lots on my mind, but specifically, FOOD. I know that there is the typical food that is included in the dinner festivities, like the turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. This year, why not try mixing things up a bit and trying different types of foods, and starting new traditions. I know for me and my family, holidays have always been really important to us. Not only was it a time for everyone to finally be together for a night, but we could also participate in something we all know and love so much, eating. LOL.

This year I will not be with my family because I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and his family, but I am sure my mom will have something extravagant up her sleeves for the dinner portion of the night. No surprise there.

I am not that good at cooking unless I have a very specific recipe and a right hand man there to help out, but earlier today while I was on Pinterest I noticed so many different foods that looked so amazing, and especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving.

Here are a couple pictures of what could potentially be some wonderful dishes for Thanksgiving night. Your bellies sure will be HAPPY!

Start with a nice salad to begin the dishes.

Apple Cranberry Walnut Salad

Ingredients
  • 6 cups salad (I used a combination of arugula and baby spinach, any spring green mix will do)
  • 1 red apple
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped (such as Diamond of California)
  • ⅓ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ⅓ cup dried cranberries
dressing (see note)
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar in a pinch)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • scant ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup oil

UGHHH so delicious…

Next we have some Crunchy Holiday Stuffing

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups celery
1 1/2 cups carrots
1 (14 oz.) pkg. stuffing
2 cups FRENCH’S® French Fried Onions
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chicken broth
1 cup Water

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease 3-quart baking dish; set aside. Melt butter in large pot; stir in vegetables and sauté for 5 minutes.
ADD stuffing, broth and water and stir until moistened. Gently stir in French Fried Onions. Spoon stuffing into 3-quart baking dish.
COVER and bake for 10 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with remaining 1 cup Onions. Bake, uncovered, 5 minutes or until Onions are golden.

The results come out to an amazing looking dish, and what I love is that it is crunchier than all the stuffing I have ever had.

And lastly, but could never forget, THE TURKEY!

Roasted Turkey with Herb Butter & Roasted Shallots

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 15-to-16 pound turkey
  • Salt and pepper to season cavity
  • 1 1/4 lb. shallots, peeled and cut in half through the root
  • 1 carrot, unpeeled
  • 1 large celery stalk, cut in half crosswise
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and quartered
  • 3 cups (approximately) chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together softened butter, sage, thyme and parsley until well combined.
  3. Remove the neck and other innards from the turkey cavity. Season the cavity with salt and pepper. Place the carrot, celery and onion quarters into the cavity of the turkey.
  4. Tie the turkey legs together and tuck the wings underneath the turkey, using small skewers to secure, if necessary.
  5. Starting at the neck end, slide your hands under the breast skin to loosen. Smear 3 tablespoons of the herb butter underneath the breast skin. Smear another 4 tablespoons of the herb butter over the entire topside of the turkey.
  6. Place the turkey in the roasting pan, breast side up. Scatter the shallots around the turkey, on the bottom of the roasting pan.
  7. Cover the breasts with foil and place the turkey in the oven. Roast the turkey for 2 hours, basting it with 1/2 cup chicken broth every 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil from the breast. If you find that the legs are browning too much, cover each drumstick with foil. Roast the turkey until a thermometer inserted in the deepest part of the thigh (be sure not to hit the bone) registers 170 degrees F, basting every 30 minutes with the pan drippings, about 1 hour total.
  9. Remove the turkey from the oven, transfer it to a platter, tent with foil and let rest for 20 minutes before carving.
  10. Remove the carrot, celery and onion from the cavity and discard.
  11. Remove the shallots from the pan and serve with the gravy. Use the remaining brown bits on the bottom of the pan and the remaining herb butter to make the gravy.

What does “beauty” mean to you? 1

Image 1
Beauty is imperfect. It is always changing always flowing. It is faith that who you are is okay so that you tell other people who they are is ok. It is not about six-pack abs, chiseled backs, round shoulders, or perfect biceps. A beautiful woman has no perfect body. We are all different and all women I am attracted to are attractive because of their differences, subtleties, and uniqueness. Not in spite of them.

The most beautiful humans are the ones who live by admittance they are imperfect and can relax and have fun. After all, in a game of monopoly, you can take all the money and property, but it all goes back in the box, so you may as well have fun before it does. A beautiful human has faith other people will want to join them in that fun.

The light that shines through can be seen and felt by all. What we look like doesn’t matter and what we say doesn’t matter but how we behave and make people feel is all that does. Love is the greatest human currency, so it’s the most beautiful thing a human can have.
