5 Tips to help you run a successful business…

I am not the expert on success but what I am an expert on is “working hard”!

I do not work for money, I work because I love what I do. I have a few tips to help you find success in your life that translates to accomplishment in your financial life.

1. Find what you love…

That could mean, you love people.

You love to invest money.

You love the rush of jumping out of a plane. (Cray, Cray people)

You love to write.

*Find a way to JUST DO IT!

2. Develop a plan…

Look, dreaming about doing something in your head will never get you anywhere, it’s a dream. Take that dream out of your head and put it on paper. It may take you weeks to figure out exactly what that dream is on paper but it developes into a plan with out you even realizing it. It is your roadmap.

3. Do not work for money…

The minute you start your roadmap and all you can think about is “money”, it will never work. You have to think of this as a labor of love and “love is in the details”. Sometimes when the main focus is money, you look at it like; what is the fasted way I can accomplish this? Wrong approach. There is “no overnight success” and if there is, it is very rare.

4. If you can, always own your own business…

Work for someone else, develop your plan in baby steps. Leave, take your chance on yourself…

Doing something right is the most important thing you can do. Make everyday, a day forward to where you will be working for your own business and loving what you do.

5. Work Hard and I mean hard…

My husband often asks me: Do you really need the money that bad?

Note: We own and operate several restaurants in MD, VA. They are successful because we worked for 10 years very hard. The first 5 years, my husband worked 18 hours a day, one day off. I did all of the financials from home to raise our children. Was it my dream? No, it was my husbands, so I worked as hard as him to help him achieve this life long dream of owning and operating a business to be proud of.

My dream was to be a jewelry designer. I have designed for 15 years but just did shows here and their. I knew I was talented because I loved it and I sold everything out every-time.

I taught myself day and night new techniques and would just sit for hours upon hours creating these little sparklers. I love what I do and very big things are happening for our little train that could.

The truth is; I do not do this for the money, I do this because I am involved in so many of life’s special moments it is unreal. My jewelry is worn, loved and passed along as gifts, moments in time to be remembered.

Like a Bride designing a necklace for her “bridesmaids”. (They will always remember, where/how/who gave this to them.) It’s almost like a song that brings you back to a very special moment or a place in time.

A wife purchasing a “love link” bracelet for her husband that shows her devotion and love to him.

A friend who purchases our Initial birthstone necklace for a new mother to be. Emotional, loving and I get to be there without being there.

A Mother who designs a “keepsake” necklace for her daughter that has her initial on one side and the daughter on the other. Cherished for life.

I want to create and be part of memories in people’s lives. It makes me happy and fulfilled….

Trick or Treat

With Halloween right around the corner, all of you must have costumes on your mind! When I was a little girl, my costume had to be perfect. I usually was a princess, and the same one three years in a row, but I have to say, my all time favorite costume was when I was tinker bell. Now, I was five, and did actually think I was tinker bell in real life, but that was the one night where I could run around and people actually went along with it!

Throughout the years I have been 80’s workout girls, superheroes, Disney princesses, ladybugs, and of course my favorite, the cute little fairy with the green sparkles in her hair.

This year I will be Sandy, the good girl gone bad for her biker boyfriend, Danny, in the movie “Grease”. My boyfriend will be playing the handsome bad boy as well. That was one of my favorite movies growing up, so I must be the leather, red lipstick wearing, curly haired Sandy! My search for the perfect leather leggings, and off the shoulder black top has not started yet, but you better believe that I will be going anywhere and everywhere to look like I am out of that movie.

What are your costume ideas for this Halloween? I know there are some hip new ideas out there, and many come from Pinterest! I think that the DIY costumes are always the best, because you know that you will never look like anybody else, even if they went with the same exact costume!

With Katniss Everdeen fighting crime, and Miley Cyrus…well, maybe not, there are a wide range of people and “things” you can be this Halloween. Get those creative minds pumping and have some fun this Halloween! I know I will!!!!!

DIY Junk Yard Frame: Jewelry Display

The other day, my fiancé and I went on our weekly “Thrify Thursday” shopping spree, in search of some frames for wall art that I am designing for our apartment. We came across this really cool gold frame, with a strip of fabric along the edge! After giving the seller my $3 for a frame that would accompany several others in our framed wall, we drove back quickly to the apartment to begin our project of refinishing and painting. While trying to remove the glass from the frame, the glass cracked! At first, I was upset that my favorite frame had broken and could no longer use it to frame the black and white photo of my fiancé, my yellow lab, Rosie, my kitten, Moe Moe, and I. How could I re-use this glass-less frame?

Why not use this frame to create a DIY Jewelry Display!? A different, unique way to display your favorite statement necklaces and long, carrousel earrings as a beautiful piece of art.

Here is what you will need:

An old frame

Chicken wire

Staple gun, fully loaded with staples

Wire cutters

Optional: Spray paint and sandpaper (if you don’t prefer the original finish of the frame)

Step 1:  Take your sandpaper, and remove the existing finish from the frame.

Step 2:  Spray paint your frame in your desired color. Apply 2 or 3 coats to make sure the paint is even. Tip: Purchase a spray paint that already has a sealant.

Step 3:  Let that beautiful frame dry overnight!

Step 4: Measure the backside of the frame, and cut the chicken wire, carefully! This part takes a lot of time and patience if you are using hand-wire cutters.

Step 5:  Staple gun the chicken wire to the back of the frame!

Step 6:  Take the thicker wire that wrapped packaged the chicken wire together, and create little “S” shaped hooks! This is what you will use to hang your jewelry on.

Hang that beautiful display piece on your wall. Now while you’re not styling your favorite statement necklaces, you can sit and stare at the beautiful jewelry as a piece of art!

XOXO,

Jessica
