THE TRANSITION…THE MAGIC OF LIVING.

seedling-fertile-ground-e1284564039611

“When all the world appears to be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes, fall gives us a premonition of winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring.”
-unknown

Personally, I could not be more excited for the first blooms of the spring season. The shades of gray, bare trees, and dirty snow have left my mind and soul feeling uninspired. However, nature always has its habits of reminding us that there is greener grass to come, literally. Once winter surrenders to the “essential rhythm” of the climate changes, will you? Though we are collectively longing for the warmth of the sun to thaw our frozen bones, for the buds to awaken, and for the colors of spring to stimulate our minds, it is the beauty of the transition from winter to spring that I find most inspiring.

Alike the animals that are slowly awakening from their deep hibernating slumber, so should we. Slowly introduce yourself, as we do every season, to the miracles of the outdoors. Spending 15-30 minutes outside every day will have your body and mind feeling rejuvenated. Appreciate the differences of winter and spring air; how it tastes, how it feels in your lungs. Open your eyes to the miniscule variations in color in the trees, grass, and flowers. Listen to the chatter of animals that have been hiding from the cold, harsh weather and the birds that fly north overhead. Do not waste time waiting for spring to be here, rather witness the change for yourself.

Now that the “holidaze” season has ended for this year, it is time to change our eating habits! Just like the chipmunk that stores his food in his checks for the winter…Benefit from the fresh greens and produce that is sprouting all around you. When your body is aligned with the nature of the universe, your soul will thank you for it.

Witnessing the harmonious flow of life is one of perks of living here on earth. Take advantage of it! If we spend our days inside, waiting for the warmth of spring, we would have missed the most incredible part! The transition. The magic of living.

Summer Days

With this weather really putting a damper on my state of mind lately, all I have been thinking about is the summer and what I want to be doing. Obviously, with graduation around the corner, I am thinking about taking two-three weeks off to do some traveling. I certainly do not have the money to be doing anything crazy, like oversea’s traveling, but I never realized how many beautiful places are in the United States that go unnoticed. So, chances are, this is where I’ll be!

grid-cell-16616-1394489170-9

This beautiful sight to see is called Antelope Canyon and it is located near Page, Arizona. It is known as the “Instagrammers Dream” because of its unique and natural colors. In the middle, where the two sides come together, there is a beam of light that comes up from above. It is known as “The Crack” or the “Corkscrew”!

enhanced-buzz-wide-30162-1394461392-15

I may or may not want to be proposed to in this tulip field which was sent from heaven. Who wouldn’t want to be? This looks like it was made out of a dream that nobody wants to wake up from. It is known as the Skagit Valley Tulip Fields which is located in Washington State. I cannot believe I have never heard of this wonderful place until now, but I am glad I did.

grid-cell-8042-1394479577-0

My grandmother was born and raised in Arkansas, a place that I have always been interested in traveling to. But now that I have seen this beautiful amazing wonderful spot, I am without a doubt heading there, and hopefully soon. Although I am fairly scared of heights, I cannot pass up a place as adventurous and beautiful like Whitaker Point, Arkansas. enhanced-buzz-wide-8797-1394335143-6This place would be awesome to go with a bunch of friends who are looking for some adventure. It is called Hamilton Pool, and is located in Texas. It is especially popular in the summer when people are looking to take a quick dip in one of nature’s amazing creations. Story goes that thousands of years ago this pool was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion. And just somehow, this masterpiece took its place. enhanced-buzz-wide-23846-1394335889-8This is called Lake Tahoe, which borders Nevada and California and is known as the largest freshwater lake in North America! What better place to spend some time with the family and relax for a while.

enhanced-buzz-wide-12379-1394226157-19One of my favorites, and the last on my list, is called Thor’s Well, which is located in Oregon. The best time to see this powerful sight is an hour before high tide to and hour after low tide. Although the sight does draw you in without a doubt, it is exceptionally dangerous and sight seers are asked to proceed with caution. Knowing me, myself, and I, chances are I would get too close and fall right in, but at least the last thing I would see is this amazing place.

Do you ever read over something so captivating, that you just keep reading it over and over again. Like you want it to progress but its almost too perfect to even do that?

I think that sometimes we fail to take a step back in life and think about all the things and people that we love. We so often forget about the good, and focus on the bad. Why have we gotten to this point? Why have we taken for granted the things that have become to effortless to us? Life is a beautiful thing and we must not take for granted the parts that have become so effortless for us. And please, please remember, we are all in this together, whether we like it or not.

As you read over this quote, think about the things in your life that you have taken for granted.

“I don’t think I love very many things but here are the ones I can think of:

I love the first sip of coffee in the morning

I love reading someone else’s words and finding a connection in them

I love the feeling a good song invokes

I love wondering

I love driving at night with no destination

I love the gentle kind of sadness like a reminder that I can feel”

-Unknown

I don’t know what it is, but this really stuck with me. I wrote down in the notes in my phone as a reminder that at least I am here, and at least I can feel.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

FUUUUURRRRRRREAZINGGGGG

Personally, I am not much a fur lover, I stay warm other ways, but fur has definitely become very popular this fall and winter. From fur vests to fur jackets, fur has become a huge fashion trend for 2014 and upcoming 2015.

If I ever were to wear fur, I am showing you two outfits where it is a little piece of the outfit that really dresses it up. Then I will provide you with an OH HELL NO outfit, that I would never ever EVER wear….ever. Obviously fashion is a freedom of expression, and I envy anybody that can step out of the box and do crazy awesome things with their wardrobe, but I am quite the simpleton and love me some “inside the box” clothing.

Here we go.

20b81509d688a419dd19010e931ae145

This first outfit is very casual and comfortable. but still brings in a pinch of fur, with the  beautiful scarf that she is wearing. I like that she put her hair up into a soft bun so that the emphasis of her outfit was still on the fur, and she didn’t over do it at all. Overall, great outfit, and if I was feeling super fashionista one day I would definitely wear this. 37d67e963bba9c5452da130d7dd020bfThis next outfit, with the fur vest, has been a huge hit this fall.  Two of my roomies came home the other day with matching fur vests and they were so excited to finally own one! My one roommate, Katie, wore the vest out with a plain long sleep shirt underneath, and she looked great. She paired the outfit perfectly with some sleek riding boots, and the outfit really came together. deab08b872ac6a54909bfd187603ad0aAnd then wow. This is definitely something. This is the highest extreme of fur I have seen in a while. All I am saying is, work it girl!

Fall and Winter Layering

The thing I love most about fall and winter is that it the perfect time to layer your clothing. I love pairing a nice flannel with a cropped sweater underneath and some destroyed jeans, finishing that off with some cute booties and a scarf.

That obviously, is my go to outfit for fall and winter, and I try to wear something like that any chance I get. For me, I love to look cute while being so comfortable, so flannels are always the first thing I run to when I am at the mall.

Here are a couple of my favorite layering outfits by using flannels.

207fe7f25b65995928558e51ecaec0d4

I love the layering of the shirt underneath the flannel and the darker jacket on top. The destroyed jeans make the outfit a little more playful as well as the addition of the booties at the bottom. I love this outfit and would wear it out to lunch with the girls, to classes, and a nice day of shopping.

ee4051fdfced45f19c6364ef574a6545

With this second outfit, I love the pairing of the flannel with a leather jacket and black pants and booties for a sleeker look , making this outfit perfect for a night out to dinner with your girlfriends.

60a06d6c37bcdb4dd61a98c322a6fadd

And for the last outfit, I chose to pick a dressier look. I love how this girl paired a funky flannel with some embellishments while keeping it classy with a high wasted black skirt, black stockings, and booties. I absolutely love this outfit and would love to wear it out for a night on the town!

THANKSGIVING FESTIVITIES!!

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I have lots on my mind, but specifically, FOOD. I know that there is the typical food that is included in the dinner festivities, like the turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. This year, why not try mixing things up a bit and trying different types of foods, and starting new traditions. I know for me and my family, holidays have always been really important to us. Not only was it a time for everyone to finally be together for a night, but we could also participate in something we all know and love so much, eating. LOL.

This year I will not be with my family because I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and his family, but I am sure my mom will have something extravagant up her sleeves for the dinner portion of the night. No surprise there.

I am not that good at cooking unless I have a very specific recipe and a right hand man there to help out, but earlier today while I was on Pinterest I noticed so many different foods that looked so amazing, and especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving.

Here are a couple pictures of what could potentially be some wonderful dishes for Thanksgiving night. Your bellies sure will be HAPPY!

Start with a nice salad to begin the dishes.

Apple Cranberry Walnut Salad

Ingredients
  • 6 cups salad (I used a combination of arugula and baby spinach, any spring green mix will do)
  • 1 red apple
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped (such as Diamond of California)
  • ⅓ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ⅓ cup dried cranberries
dressing (see note)
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar in a pinch)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • scant ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup oil

UGHHH so delicious…

Next we have some Crunchy Holiday Stuffing

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups celery
1 1/2 cups carrots
1 (14 oz.) pkg. stuffing
2 cups FRENCH’S® French Fried Onions
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chicken broth
1 cup Water

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease 3-quart baking dish; set aside. Melt butter in large pot; stir in vegetables and sauté for 5 minutes.
ADD stuffing, broth and water and stir until moistened. Gently stir in French Fried Onions. Spoon stuffing into 3-quart baking dish.
COVER and bake for 10 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with remaining 1 cup Onions. Bake, uncovered, 5 minutes or until Onions are golden.

The results come out to an amazing looking dish, and what I love is that it is crunchier than all the stuffing I have ever had.

And lastly, but could never forget, THE TURKEY!

Roasted Turkey with Herb Butter & Roasted Shallots

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 15-to-16 pound turkey
  • Salt and pepper to season cavity
  • 1 1/4 lb. shallots, peeled and cut in half through the root
  • 1 carrot, unpeeled
  • 1 large celery stalk, cut in half crosswise
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and quartered
  • 3 cups (approximately) chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together softened butter, sage, thyme and parsley until well combined.
  3. Remove the neck and other innards from the turkey cavity. Season the cavity with salt and pepper. Place the carrot, celery and onion quarters into the cavity of the turkey.
  4. Tie the turkey legs together and tuck the wings underneath the turkey, using small skewers to secure, if necessary.
  5. Starting at the neck end, slide your hands under the breast skin to loosen. Smear 3 tablespoons of the herb butter underneath the breast skin. Smear another 4 tablespoons of the herb butter over the entire topside of the turkey.
  6. Place the turkey in the roasting pan, breast side up. Scatter the shallots around the turkey, on the bottom of the roasting pan.
  7. Cover the breasts with foil and place the turkey in the oven. Roast the turkey for 2 hours, basting it with 1/2 cup chicken broth every 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil from the breast. If you find that the legs are browning too much, cover each drumstick with foil. Roast the turkey until a thermometer inserted in the deepest part of the thigh (be sure not to hit the bone) registers 170 degrees F, basting every 30 minutes with the pan drippings, about 1 hour total.
  9. Remove the turkey from the oven, transfer it to a platter, tent with foil and let rest for 20 minutes before carving.
  10. Remove the carrot, celery and onion from the cavity and discard.
  11. Remove the shallots from the pan and serve with the gravy. Use the remaining brown bits on the bottom of the pan and the remaining herb butter to make the gravy.

And wow, is that a good lookin turkey!

Ps: These recipes and and directions are found from sites on Pinterest, and are just some of the wonderful dishes I have tried before. Pinterest always has some great pins for the Holiday seasons especially when it has to do with food!

Hope you all enjoy, and potentially use these recipes!

Fifty Shades of “Oh My GOD!”

“Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

Not sure if many of you have read the trilogy, “Fifty Shades of Grey” by E L James, but the book is truly insane and memorable, not in the sense that the writing is great, but because, well, you can get the gist.

The book literally is insane. When I started reading it I had no plan in never putting the book down. I could not stop. I did not even really like what I was reading but I was so shocked and taken back that I could not put the book down.

I am not sure if it is an uncomfortable feeling or a hysterical feeling, but I cannot believe I read all three of the books in the trilogy.

I am very excited to see how the movie turns out on Valentines Day. Will the movie be as explicit as the book was, and if so, will that cause a bunch of uproar from parents?

The books were very descriptive and I am not sure it is the best idea to include all of that nitty gritties in a movie!

Having said that, I am so excited to see it! Definitely eager, to say the least!

Would love to know what you all think about these controversial books, and what you hope the movie is like in February!

MOVIE DAY!

6532a57f7dcc2846f30d81a3c3246a77 e6e84de7067075403a3b7e3e4c7f5718 f62465fa8f15daa36b975d37914a2f58

Today is a prime day to have a movie day. It is cloudy and a little rainy, and I just want to cuddle up, watch Halloween movies, and drink some hot chocolate. There are so many awful scary movies out there that I cannot help but watch.

I am such a scary movie guru, and love watching the ones that are not as popular as others. In my opinion, the older movies that are not as high tech as the newer ones have the better story lines. I sometimes wish that they were re done so that they weren’t as corny and had better special effects, but then I get scared that they will lose the awesome background stories.

I feel that the newer movies get so wrapped up in the special effects and gory details that they lose the reality of what can be so scary.

Some of my favorite scenes from some scary movies are at the end of Carrie when the final catastrophe at the dance occurs. When the pigs blood is spilled on top of her, and she has her final freak out, killing everyone who has ever hurt her in some way. The other is, well every scene from the Exorcist. I love those movies so much and wish they would just keep going. When I first watched those movies I couldn’t sleep alone for what seemed like forever. I was always having nightmares about the movie, but I ALWAYS went back for more.

I would love to hear about some of your favorite movies, and why you love them. Maybe I will hear about some new movies and will have a movie day this weekend!! WOOHHOO. Movie days are the best.

Trick or Treat

With Halloween right around the corner, all of you must have costumes on your mind! When I was a little girl, my costume had to be perfect. I usually was a princess, and the same one three years in a row, but I have to say, my all time favorite costume was when I was tinker bell. Now, I was five, and did actually think I was tinker bell in real life, but that was the one night where I could run around and people actually went along with it!

Throughout the years I have been 80’s workout girls, superheroes, Disney princesses, ladybugs, and of course my favorite, the cute little fairy with the green sparkles in her hair.

This year I will be Sandy, the good girl gone bad for her biker boyfriend, Danny, in the movie “Grease”. My boyfriend will be playing the handsome bad boy as well. That was one of my favorite movies growing up, so I must be the leather, red lipstick wearing, curly haired Sandy! My search for the perfect leather leggings, and off the shoulder black top has not started yet, but you better believe that I will be going anywhere and everywhere to look like I am out of that movie.

What are your costume ideas for this Halloween? I know there are some hip new ideas out there, and many come from Pinterest! I think that the DIY costumes are always the best, because you know that you will never look like anybody else, even if they went with the same exact costume!

With Katniss Everdeen fighting crime, and Miley Cyrus…well, maybe not, there are a wide range of people and “things” you can be this Halloween. Get those creative minds pumping and have some fun this Halloween! I know I will!!!!!
