I will never forget the moment I realized I loved you.

I find myself always enchanted by poetry.

I am always so fascinated by a person that can write down ten words at most, and explain all the thoughts that I may have, but cant put into words exactly, or the right way.

Sometimes when you can relate to words on a paper, or on a computer screen, you feel a little safer. A little less alone. I know I can sometimes get caught up in my own emotions or feelings, and not sit to think that millions of other people are going through the same thing.

Or, on the other side of things; on the beautiful side of things, poetry is way for you to say “I love you” or “thank you” or “I am thinking of you”. Poetry is so many different feelings crumbled up into a couple lines. Maybe some of those lines rhyme, maybe not, but those lines are works of art.

I have always had trouble putting my feelings into words, or down onto paper. Sometimes I find that I say the wrong thing way too often and the right thing basically never. But I like to relate. I like to relate to the things I read, or the things I hear, to help myself better understand what it is I need to say. Maybe its not much. Maybe all I need to say is an “I love you” or a “thank you”.

because i could watch you for a single minute                                                               and find a thousand things that I love about you

19 words. nineteen words. a boat load of emotions.

or how about this.

the way i see it, I will either love you forever, or I will forget all about you                           both possibilities are equally terrifying.

Again, a few words that say it all. A book written within two short lines. So many different feelings pour out with the help of these two short poems, and just like that, serve as an explanation for how you feel.

It is a language all in itself, because truthfully, its about the writer. It relies on the writers emotions or feelings entirely. Everyone can do it. It may be easier for some to make their emotions into a type of art, but we all have the back ground to be great at it, because we all have those emotions.

In all honestly, poetry is not a thing of beauty. It is a thing of experience. Experiences of love, heart break, ugliness, hatred, sorrow, despair. What poetry does with all these experiences, good or bad, is that it romanticizes it in a way. So that when we read the experiences of someone who has had their heart broken, we read it in a way that its beautiful.

So I’ll leave you with something beautiful

the truth about                                                                                                                      romance is                                                                                                                                  this: We are                                                                                                                    all novels; our pages stained                                                                                          of either our lovers,

 or our loneliness

Just remember to write it down. Sometimes its better that way.

They Said the Word “Cancer”

Hey everyone. I know I haven’t posted in a while but this story hit close to home…As a mama to my baby girl Rosie, my 1 year old yellow lab, I know how hard something like this can be. What they need is support. Whether that’s by donating or simply sharing this post. My friend Ashley and her boyfriend Brian have this sweet, 6 year old puppy named Bella in need of surgery. Read her story below. There will be a link to the GoFundMe website if you would like to donate.

Jessica Calkins

Her name is, Bella. She was an owner surrender when I rescued her and she didn’t know much. She was a little out of control to be honest, but we stuck together. At about 74 kisses in I fell in love. She has been there for me every time I’ve been in need and has never wanted anything more than to be there by your side, soaking in your love. She’s everything a dog is supposed to be. It’s impossible to repay her for what she gives.

About 5 months ago a sudden eye infection ravaged her right eye. We’ve been in emergency clinics, veterinarian clinics, and eye specialist clinics, but have only been told that it’s an anomaly. We’ve been on 11 different drops and 6 different pain medications and antibiotics since then. Secondary glaucoma was the result after the infection cleared up and even when the pressure in her eye was high it’s tough to tell if she’s in pain. She just wants to be next to you and give you the softest kisses. She wouldn’t complain even if she could talk.

Yesterday we had another eye specialist appointment to see if her pressure was still low. We’ve had so many I can’t even keep count anymore. We were told that it is now believed that we are dealing with uveal melanoma in her right eye. They want to extract her eye. It’s what I’ve been dreading all along and now I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ve already spent thousands and thousands of

dollars on visits and medications and every blood work test imaginable. We’ve been quoted with another high bill and I have to find out how to make it work. All of her blood work tests came back perfect and everything suggests she’s in excellent health except for this horrible eye incident. If you can find it in your heart to help out Bella, please do. We’d forever be in your debt.

She just turned 6 on March 16, and she has so much more life ahead of her. She goes everywhere with me and if you could see the joy she brings to people you’d love her just the same as I. Thank you for reading this. We really appreciate your time.

Love, Bella

It really is all about that #love

I am not your typical sappy “love” girl. I never have been but I recently just had a give-a-way for our jewels and instead of asking our girls to comment on our baubles, I asked them to comment on “what love means to them?”.

Whoa, the responses were incredible and really gave me food for thought…

Does love really fuel us that much?

Are we really so accustomed to cynicism and heartache that love is an undertone?

Well, here is my personal thoughts on “love” and what it means to me;

“For me, love is an uncontrollable emotion that leaves you still in thought, manic with crave but even more so, endless with forgiveness. What we love will always let you down at some point. Why? Because we are human. But it is your willingness to survive the hurt to believe in love that makes a truly soulful heart and a soul mate forever. I believe that “love” is the most powerful emotional known to man.”

I could write a book on this but you have to read the beautiful comments made by just wonderful people…

Christina Elizabeth Karsoyan-  Love means, something you really care about and your love is unconditional to them you love that something so much you can’t even express how you feel. I love someone, and that’s everybody. So love for me means your emotions for them or whoever is unconditional.

Nancy P. Torres Love is what keeps me going daily, the driving force behind my intentions and actions and the answers to life’s toughest questions. You never want to change someone if you truly love them. Love is when you feel completely comfortable around them and they are the first person you want to tell something to. They are the first person you think of when you wake up and go to sleep. But in order to love someone else, you have to love yourself first.

Britney Johnson Love means accepting another person in the strongest way possible. It means supporting them in anything and everything, even when you may not agree on the situation.

Love means not looking for something better or seeing what’s out there. It means committing to that person because you know they complete you in every way. It doesn’t mean being a replica of another person, but rather being like a puzzle piece that fits perfectly with the other. Your traits complement each other to create better versions of you both.

Love is picking up each other’s broken pieces and renewing the heart as a whole designing it to be stronger and doing everything in your power to stay in a person’s life. Love is waking up at 3 in the morning thinking about that special someone even if they’re right by your side. Love is putting that one person before anything and everyone else. Love is whatever makes you keep going; makes you feel confident, beautiful, joyful, and strong… Powerful… Complete. Love may make you do stupid things sometimes, but for the most part, love gives you the drive to wake up every morning and want to be and do better. Angela Milam Acceptance

Britney Johnson Love is complete acceptance: When we allow someone to be exactly as they are, without any belief that they aren’t good enough, without any belief that they would be “better” if they were different, this is love.

Love is completely unconditional: Love has no conditions. When we truly love someone, we can’t stop loving them, regardless of what they do or say. If our love is dependent upon the other person acting and speaking how we want, then this love is completely conditional. We often confuse this to be love, but this is just positive thoughts about someone. This is just loving what a person says or does, not loving them. Positive thoughts or the thought “I love you” isn’t necessary to love. Sometimes it even gets in the way.

Love is selfless: True love doesn’t want anything in return, because there is nothing it needs. We just love for the sake of love. When we love someone, we don’t look for them to fill our needs, love us back, and all those types of things. If that is what we are looking for, then we are just using the other person. What is the meaning of love? Love is completely selfless
Love comes in many different forms ♡

Angel Lynn Love to me is honesty and loyalty. It’s a pure feeling that can not be misunderstood. When you have love you have the beauty of knowing what true happiness is. Love is being held with no words after you’ve found out you lost your baby. Love is hearing your husband up every night praying for you when you’ve lost your speech due to a brain injury. Love is KNOWING that he’ll be there no matter what trials may come your way.

Longer, Stronger, Faster-Growing Hair!

452c6a78d204edf09f068d047f4c9a12 b769b761e8a804639460d2b047863e59 c0683405efa132a04c4b147a181eccbe

Recently, I have chopped off my hair and by “chopped’ I mean I cut 3-4 inches off (dead ends). To some, that may not be much. However, I have ALWAYS had long hair. If my hair doesn’t hit the middle of my back, I feel naked! I only trust one person with cutting my hair, a family friend that I called my second mother growing up. If I went to a salon to get my hair cut, my palms would sweat and my heart would start racing. It’s safe to say that I have a fear of the chair at a salon. Not my thing. With my wedding quickly approaching…faster than I can keep up with…I want my long curly locks back! I thought I would share my tips on healthy, fast-growing hair.

Typically, your hair will grow ½ an inch every month. For me, my hair can grow up to 1 inch per month as long as I follow this routine. I swear by this…

Drink Water. Water is essential to hair strength and growth! Without it, your hair will become dry. Hydrated hair is happy hair. Your hair will not grow if it is brittle and breaking every time you brush it. Which brings me to my next point…

Comb wet hair, do not brush it. When your hair is wet, your hair is at its weakest point. Therefore, using a wide-tooth comb while hair is wet, will not be as damaging to your hair.

A balanced diet. Eating the necessary foods that is full of proteins, complex carbs, vitamins and minerals is key to growing strong, healthy hair. Your hair is made of proteins, therefore eating foods like salmon, walnuts, oysters, sweet potatoes, spinach, poultry, lentils, and Greek yogurt are building blocks for your hair!

Shampoo is one of the most damaging things to your hair. If you can go 3-4 days without washing your hair with shampoo, then your hair will thank you for it. Shampoo contains chemicals called sulfates, which are also found in your kitchen degreaser. It creates the foamy texture to shampoo. Not washing your hair for 2-3 days can be hard but there a several solutions for managing greasy hair throughout the week. (Don’t run your greasy hands through your hair every second, use dry shampoo, and stage your hair styles throughout the week.) Use can also find no or low sulfate shampoos at any beauty supply store like Ulta.

Use a Heat Protectant. I am guilty of using extreme heat on my hair. My blow dryer, my straighter, curling wand, etc. So if I am going to use these styling tools on my hair, I will put a heat protectant in before I start styling. My favorite product is “It’s a 10.” You can buy it at any local grocery store or pharmacy.

Lastly, take Biotin! Biotin is a vitamin that can be found at your local Whole Foods! It promotes thicker and faster-growing hair…

Hope this helps!

On My Way Down the Aisle: My Maid of Honor’s Dress

As I said in my last post, I was very interested in having all my bridesmaids pick their own dresses in a shade of light gray to blue-gray. Each of my bridesmaids would be comfortable in the dress, it would fit their budget, and it adds a bohemian element to my big day! I was so excited to start the adventure of discovering each dress, especially with my Maid of Honor, Mary.

A little about Mary… She and I met in design school about 4 years ago. Though we have only known each other for a short amount of time, I feel like I have known this girl my entire life. We share a lot of the same interests, one of them being design. We both don’t take ourselves seriously, so every time we are together, we cry from laughing so hard. We have our own language. She is the only person I can spend hours upon hours on the sofa watching Mary Kate & Ashley movies, without being judged. She has been there for me through thick and thin. She has one of the kindest hearts and truly cares for the people she loves. I am so lucky to be a part of her life and her of mine.

The only requirements that I had given Mary for her dress was that it had to be a shade of light grey to blue-gray and it had to be floor length. Mary found a few dresses that she liked; a lot had a lace applique on the top with a chiffon skirt. We narrowed our choices to three, but there was clearly a first choice. The consultant told us that she was not sure if this dress could be produced in the color that we wanted. She said that she would call us on Monday to confirm whether or not we could. Crossing our fingers…Mary and I hoped that this dress could be made the way we wanted. On Monday, we found out that the lace applique could not come in the “graphite” color! The dress was perfect for Mary and I could tell that she loved it so much, so did I! So I asked them if we could have the lace applique in ivory and the rest of the dress in the “graphite” chiffon. The bridal consultant called the designer and said it wouldn’t be a problem! YAY!

Tip: If you are planning a wedding and you want your bridesmaids to pick different styles and colors of dresses, then make sure you ask the vendor to send you a fabric swatch of the materials. This way, you can see what colors blend well with the shades that you’ve already picked. We have 4 more dresses to go…Here is a few pictures from our trip!

Boys- are you thinking about buying your girlfriend, fiancé, or wife some roses and chocolates for Valentine’s Day? Don’t. Roses are over played and just seem like you are falling into the category of people that crack under pressure by this commercial holiday. Instead, get creative in your present to your woman! Here are my favorite options…

Flowers. If you are going to go the flower route take advantage of the “farm-to-table” concept. I don’t mean go to a farm and pick your own flowers. I mean when purchasing flowers, take into consideration where the come from and the ones that are in season, because they will look the best. If you wanted the most beautiful roses that weren’t shipped from across the country, then Valentine’s Day should be rescheduled from February 14th to mid-spring through fall. Also, take into consideration the fragrance of the flowers. After all, this is a sensual holiday.

Candy, Chocolates, and Food. Just like smell, taste is another strong sense that you want to trigger on Valentine’s Day. Instead of buying a heart shaped boxes from Whitman’s, try making something that will impress your significant other. If you really want to impress your significant other, come up with a menu that is comprised of foods that are known for their aphrodisiac qualities! Foods like honey, chocolate, and oysters are associated with sparking reactions of energy, love and passion.

Jewelry. Staying in theme with the “farm-to-table” (farm fresh flowers) and DIY (making a romantic dinner yourself, instead of going out to dinner) purchasing jewels that are handmade are perfect for this kind of holiday. I can’t tell you how much time, heart and soul my mother, Laurie (owner of Bare & Me) puts into each piece that she handcrafts. From her Keepsake Pendants to her Heart and Arrow necklace, your significant other would be lucky to have one of these in her jewelry armoire! (Also, girls! Don’t forget about you mothers, sisters, and friends this year!) They deserve one too! Click the link “SHOP” at the top to view my mom’s collections. You won’t regret it! 😉

I have a challenge for you. Don’t let people tell you that Valentine’s Day is the only day to treat you significant other, mothers, dads, sisters, brothers, and friends to something special. Telling someone constantly that you love them and appreciate them is what makes the feel special. Surprising them with small gifts here and there will have a bigger impact than a diamond on Valentine’s Day. Spread the love! Remind each person in your life that you hold close to your heart, and tell them that you love them…everyday up until Valentine’s Day…through your actions and through your words. Then, once you see how easy that was, continue to do so throughout the entirety of the year! We love you guys!

Healthy Me

One of my New Years Resolutions was to get myself back into tip top shape for this upcoming summer. I have been going to the gym and focusing on things the make myself stronger. I noticed that my body is always hurting when I do not take care of myself, so being in and out of the gym almost every day has been the best possible thing for me. I can slowly feel myself getting stronger, and it is the absolute best possible feeling, especially during this cold winter. Now that I have been consistently stretching and keeping my muscles warm, I have felt so great. I am not as tired, and I always am ready to run around and have some fun. Last year I napped way too much because my body was always tired, and my head was not in it. Now, things are getting a lot easier for me. A lot of the stuff I have been doing do not require extra weights or going to the gym, so you dont need a gym membership or spend money.

d29230421e837c7cc6947e2fd7b183b6 faa1886dc7c614dc3677628d0d1d4a5dBoth of these workouts are simple and do not require a lot of time. I know that many of you are busy,  and never can really find the time for yourself to get to the place where you want to be physically. These workouts, if done correctly, take up to 5 minutes of your day. Right when you wake up in the morning and before you head to work you can do these, or right before you go to bed every night.

Consistency is key when you are doing small workouts like these. I know when I first started doing them, the next day I would be terribly sore and would not want to do it again. But now that I am passed the soreness, I just want to get better and better. Once you get into the rhythm of things, it will only feel natural for you to work yourself out.

I always had soccer to fall back on when I didn’t feel like working out. I always knew that I would get a good workout from running down the field, so I never worked out outside of it. I always relied on it. Now that I am done playing soccer, I need to keep myself healthy. This has been a great start to the beginning of a new me! A new and healthy me!!!!

Bringing the outdoors into my home is something that I truly believe breathes life into my space. Here are three of my favorite indoor plants…

I love everything about succulents. The variations of color and textures. They are also very hard to kill. You can plant these in anything…

Fresh herbs…

fresh herbs

Fresh herbs not only look great when you plant them in little pots, but they also taste great in any of your recipes! YUM! Cilantro is my favorite…

Golden Pothos…

The Golden Pothos is a plant that will never die! I love the Golden Pothos for its beautiful long green vines with marbled leaves. Golden Pothos are also known from improving air quality!

Does anyone have anything positive to share anymore? Lately, scrolling through my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is a collection of miserably destructive stories and negative statuses. Letting go of negative tension and exuding positivity is something every human being can work on, including myself. Being mad at the world, at your friends and family, at your job or boss, or at your significant other just leads to vibes that don’t allow you to move forward in life. You might feel like the world is coming down on you and the pressure you feel on your back is almost unbearable, but if you just LET GO of those things and CHOOSE to be positive, good things will come to you.

There was one day where Matt and I had just moved into our new house and stress levels were, what had felt like, BEYOND what I could handle. If you have moved out, you know the kind of stress I am talking about. There is mess everywhere, you don’t know where anything is, and you feel like you have so much to do. Let’s back up a little bit…When we were moving out of our apartment and packing up our truck, I was packing the boxes, and Matt and his best friend Casey were carrying the boxes and packing them in the truck. That was my first mistake, letting these guys pack the truck. For me, packing a truck was like a game of Tetris. Matt and Casey assured me that everything was going to be fine. We pull up to the house and park the truck. We decided that we wanted to unpack the next day. Matt goes to work and I wanted to get a head start on unpacking. So I go to open the back of the truck and the door is STUCK! Boxes and furniture must have been wedged against the door, due to Matt and Casey’s lovely packing job. I think Matt and I had already gotten into a fight that morning, so I just freak out. I can’t get anything out of this damn truck! I call my dad out for some help, and after many attempts of safely trying to pry the door open, I just decide to start rocking the door back and forth. I get the door open, but in the process, I damaged my favorite full length mirror that I had bought from World Market. PISSED. I start screaming and cursing Matt’s name. I was so mad!! Once I start pulling out boxes, I see my new desk (also from World Market) had collapsed. The legs had snapped off, and the table top was bowing in the middle. Maybe it was because Matt had packed 300 pounds of boxes on top of the table without any support. Again, furious. (Just writing about this story is making my heart race.)

Matt wasn’t coming home for a couple of hours and I had convinced myself that I was going rip him a new one when he got home. I cried and told my dad how upset I was and how I was going to react. He says to me, “What is that going to do?” What good was it going to do for Matt getting an ear full of high pitch screaming? It was just going to go in one ear and out the other anyway!? After having a couple hours to calm down, Matt pulls up. He walks inside and I give him a kiss for coming home and say “Hey baby, how was your day?” I told him that I had a surprise for him and I wanted to show him something. I walk him out to the truck and I say, “It makes me sad that my mirror and my desk are completely broken, but I am not going to let this ruin our day. Could you please just do a better job and come up with a plan before you throw everything into the truck?” He gave me a kiss and apologized. I felt better instantly. I wasn’t mad anymore. A little bummed. But not mad.

We had a couple things to do so we ran out to do some errands for the day together. After talking with Matt, I had positive vibes exuding from my body and felt great! We go to mattress discounters because we needed a mattress for our new king size bed. We walk in to the empty showroom and meet the sales rep. I give him a big smile and a firm handshake and let him know why we are there! Matt and I were having fun trying out all the different mattresses and finally settled on one. It was pretty pricey but I was feeling great so I told the guy that we wanted it cheaper. I told him I was a designer and asked if they had any sale promotions for designers. Long story short, we got the mattress $800 less than asking price. That was a great start to our errand trip. Then I decided I wanted to go to World Market to see if they had any desks that would replace mine. We walked around the store and see the same desk, except this one was perfectly straight and upright! I asked the manager what I could do about my desk, and he said if you just bring in the parts of the desk, we will replace it! I couldn’t believe it! I could have my desk back…We left and drove back home to get the fragmented desk and quickly exchanged it. I was so impressed with myself and how lucky I was that day. Matt and I were feeling so lucky that we bought a scratch off and won $10. I know it’s not much but it made us laugh…

Throughout the rest of the day, I was so mesmerized with the fact that I had such a great day just because I chose to. I chose to have a positive attitude and look how my day turned out.

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.
