2015 Prints

Lately I have been obsessing over prints. Graphic prints, animal prints, anything you can imagine, I love it all. Anything you can use to spice up an outfit, whether it be a jacket, some shoes, or the smallest headband. Instead of being so matchy matchy, you can ad some flare to your outfits for this 2015 new year (which is so weird btw…2015. W0W)

Floral:

Like all other years, floral has always been a huge hit, whether it be on the runway, the stage, or everyday life. Everyone loves the way they feel when they are wearing some beautiful floral. It seems as though florals are here for good, and I am not mad at all. They are feminine but bold at the same time, and they accentuate the many different personalities of a successful woman! It might be that floral prints will stop being a trend, and start to be the real deal in the fashion world. It has been a “trend” for a very long time and maybe, just maybe, it will stay around for the long run.

Animal:

Animal prints were covered previously in this blog, and they will continue to be a trend this Spring, but what you will mostly notice is that the animalistic colors will not only be confined to the boundaries of black and white, but be opened up to bright pinks, blues, and greens! Bright hues are again going to be a trend.

Geometric:

Geometric prints have always been a standout for me. Although I have not gotten around to the perfect geometric print for myself, I always see a variety of ages rocking the bright colored prints all over their wardrobe. This year, different geometric prints are being designed in a perfect clash of bright and dark colors. Specifically, the most appealing prints will be in the black and white tones for those who want to stay true to their color hues.  These prints will become more popular on handbags and shoes.

Black and White:

I have continued to stay inside my comfort zone with colors for a very long time. You can always see me wearing all black, and sometimes jumping out with a hint of color, but never too much. So, it makes me very happy to know that this 2015, black and white patterns are making their way back onto the drawing board. You will see black and white colors on pants with a variety of different patterns, ranging from polka dots to black and white florals. Another anticipated hit within black and white colors will be stripes on jackets and even on shoes. I am so excited to see how these prints will spice up my wardrobe!

I believe in classic timeless design. This vision can be obtained in different and all interiors. Classic designs are forever…

Modern and timeless interiors captured by harmonizing period pieces, traditional and transitional furniture, raw wood, organic shapes and tropical touches to create spaces that feel unencumbered and relaxed. Glamour that is disarmingly functional and practical.

My philosophy, bringing the outdoors in through natural elements, mixed with modern, traditional, and the unexpected create a serene home that stands the test of time and good taste.

Well, let me introduce you to my best friend since the second grade…

WE have been through just about everything together in the last 40 years. The heartbreak of loss, life’s joys and  struggles but most importantly, standing beside each other through everything. I can not express the gratitude I feel just knowing her. Her love of beauty, creativity and sense of style just astounds me.

This is the type of relationship that stands the test of time. You know, the kind where you don’t see each other for a long while and once you are together you don’t miss a beat. The fate type of relationship, SISTERHOOD.

We spent our “Thanksgiving” together like we have done for countless years. Our children also have friendships that will last forever. Her first three are the same ages as mine and have spent countless hours with each other over the period of 24 years.

While she was here in Maryland, she made my new house a home with her glorious floral arrangement. It’s hard to achieve this when you are newly moved into a home with the “Holidays” in your face but she with a few clicks of her branch cutter, floral ideas and most importantly her quick paced mind, she put these together like a whirl wind of magic…

I love this about her 20 things going on in this pretty little mind but makes each and every decision with guided intuition, love of beauty but most importantly with “mad” creativity…

Her designs just want to make you stare in glorious delight…

Do you ever read over something so captivating, that you just keep reading it over and over again. Like you want it to progress but its almost too perfect to even do that?

I think that sometimes we fail to take a step back in life and think about all the things and people that we love. We so often forget about the good, and focus on the bad. Why have we gotten to this point? Why have we taken for granted the things that have become to effortless to us? Life is a beautiful thing and we must not take for granted the parts that have become so effortless for us. And please, please remember, we are all in this together, whether we like it or not.

As you read over this quote, think about the things in your life that you have taken for granted.

“I don’t think I love very many things but here are the ones I can think of:

I love the first sip of coffee in the morning

I love reading someone else’s words and finding a connection in them

I love the feeling a good song invokes

I love wondering

I love driving at night with no destination

I love the gentle kind of sadness like a reminder that I can feel”

-Unknown

I don’t know what it is, but this really stuck with me. I wrote down in the notes in my phone as a reminder that at least I am here, and at least I can feel.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

Sisters

10544386_10152228362021561_372905317014847676_nWhen I was born, I was lucky enough to be blessed with two older sisters to always take care of me. My one sister, Lindsey, is exactly ten years older than me, and the other, Nicole, is 13 years older than me. We are spread out in age, but you would never know that by the way we act.

I know it sounds cheesy when you pull the whole, “my sisters are my best friends” quote…but these two girls know me more than anybody in the world.

They have been there through my first heartbreak (in 7th grade when Nick Jonas started dating Miley Cyrus…yes I loved Nick Jonas), running for Vice President in middle school, girl drama, and all the other things a girl goes through growing up.

I know my sisters were always there as a shoulder to cry on while growing up, but even better than that, they were there to toughen me up. We are sort of a tough love family, so through all the punches, and sarcastic comments, I somehow was able to roll with the punches of mean girls and high school once I finally got there. And if I were to ever have a rough day, I sure as hell knew they would be there to kick some booty!

They also taught me about the crazy world of girls. Not only did I learn from their silly mistakes, but my sisters showed me how to mature appropriately and be the person that I am today. I walked into the first day of high school fully aware of what I was getting myself into. They always made me strongly believe in who I was and to never second guess my judgements, and I thank them for that.

My sisters set me up for a wonderful four years of high school. They warned me of certain teachers, and who to suck up to, and helped me to have a very successful time. I loved walking down the hallway and hearing the teachers say, “Oh thats an Adam girl” and “You wouldn’t believe the things your sisters used to do!”. They definitely left their mark and really made an impression on the people around them. But that is no surprise, if you know these girls like I do.

The bond between sisters is a very unique one. It is hard to define, because it is a mixture of love, care, concern, annoyance, frowns, smiles, and laughter. I have always been both of my sisters number one fan. They have continued to be my role models, for so many different reasons, but mostly because they taught me how to have a backbone. They taught me to never let anybody walk all over me, and to always stick up for what I believed in, and for that, I thank them.

No matter where I end up in life, I will always look back to the amazing childhood I had, with the most amazing siblings. Sometimes I think that they know me more than I know myself.

My sisters are, and forever will remain my best friends!

FUUUUURRRRRRREAZINGGGGG

Personally, I am not much a fur lover, I stay warm other ways, but fur has definitely become very popular this fall and winter. From fur vests to fur jackets, fur has become a huge fashion trend for 2014 and upcoming 2015.

If I ever were to wear fur, I am showing you two outfits where it is a little piece of the outfit that really dresses it up. Then I will provide you with an OH HELL NO outfit, that I would never ever EVER wear….ever. Obviously fashion is a freedom of expression, and I envy anybody that can step out of the box and do crazy awesome things with their wardrobe, but I am quite the simpleton and love me some “inside the box” clothing.

Here we go.

20b81509d688a419dd19010e931ae145

This first outfit is very casual and comfortable. but still brings in a pinch of fur, with the  beautiful scarf that she is wearing. I like that she put her hair up into a soft bun so that the emphasis of her outfit was still on the fur, and she didn’t over do it at all. Overall, great outfit, and if I was feeling super fashionista one day I would definitely wear this. 37d67e963bba9c5452da130d7dd020bfThis next outfit, with the fur vest, has been a huge hit this fall.  Two of my roomies came home the other day with matching fur vests and they were so excited to finally own one! My one roommate, Katie, wore the vest out with a plain long sleep shirt underneath, and she looked great. She paired the outfit perfectly with some sleek riding boots, and the outfit really came together. deab08b872ac6a54909bfd187603ad0aAnd then wow. This is definitely something. This is the highest extreme of fur I have seen in a while. All I am saying is, work it girl!

Fall and Winter Layering

The thing I love most about fall and winter is that it the perfect time to layer your clothing. I love pairing a nice flannel with a cropped sweater underneath and some destroyed jeans, finishing that off with some cute booties and a scarf.

That obviously, is my go to outfit for fall and winter, and I try to wear something like that any chance I get. For me, I love to look cute while being so comfortable, so flannels are always the first thing I run to when I am at the mall.

Here are a couple of my favorite layering outfits by using flannels.

207fe7f25b65995928558e51ecaec0d4

I love the layering of the shirt underneath the flannel and the darker jacket on top. The destroyed jeans make the outfit a little more playful as well as the addition of the booties at the bottom. I love this outfit and would wear it out to lunch with the girls, to classes, and a nice day of shopping.

With this second outfit, I love the pairing of the flannel with a leather jacket and black pants and booties for a sleeker look , making this outfit perfect for a night out to dinner with your girlfriends.

60a06d6c37bcdb4dd61a98c322a6fadd

And for the last outfit, I chose to pick a dressier look. I love how this girl paired a funky flannel with some embellishments while keeping it classy with a high wasted black skirt, black stockings, and booties. I absolutely love this outfit and would love to wear it out for a night on the town!

Matt Greene…His Thoughts on Beauty

1526694_10152283337712938_86606288_n

Beauty…When the word comes to mind for many the first thought is the physical. After all we live in a physical world. A world built of consumerism and appreciating items and physical appearances and not so much the inner beauty of the human race.

People were created to be loved, to appreciate each other, to feel empathically towards others, to care, laugh and love each other is real beauty. Don’t get me wrong beauty can represent the physical of people but I feel like with social media such as Facebook or even Tinder as a human species we are conditioned to only think of beauty in terms of the outer physical appearance.

We stray away from what makes us human and the beauty of human connection and empathic relationships, which is real beauty. So to me beauty is not just the physical but beauty is the relationships we build, the time we spend together, the fulfilling feeling when you help someone live better. That is beauty.

**************************************************

I have lived in three different continents, traveled to twenty different countries and all over the USA seeing the good, bad, and ugly. I have worked with people in trailer homes and have worked with some living in the 3% of the world so to me beauty is not and should not be based off of the physical outer shell of human beings but seeing the connections built within.

Seeing the 3% helping and working with the less fortunate is beauty, getting food for a homeless man outside is beauty, making someone laugh is beauty, living a fulfilling life that is not based on a paycheck but based on bettering those around you is the real beauty. So to me beauty is not so much a physical word but it describes the center of all human connection.

Real beauty is the positive impact you have on those around you and I will always stand by that.

What does “beauty” mean to Kelly…

Image

Beauty to me is not necessarily the way I look but a feeling. I am 46 and don’t want to look 25 but I do want to look and feel comfortable with who I am. I have never been one to feel that I was pretty or beautiful. I’m not unhappy with the way I look but beautiful would not be a word I used to describe myself.

I was raised as a pastor’s daughter and was held to a standard of what other people thought. I couldn’t be messy or dirty. I couldn’t have wrinkles in my clothes or a hair out-of-place. The pastor’s family is on display and even though those days are long behind me I still don’t leave the house without make up or my hair not done. Beauty to me wasn’t something I felt but looking my best was an expectation. The first words when meeting someone were typically about the way I looked “oh aren’t you pretty!” rather than “it’s so nice to meet you.” Beauty was expected.

Not too long ago during a conversation with a friend, I was pointing out some of my flaws and my friend stopped me and said “Don’t you know you are gorgeous?” I was caught off guard because that wasn’t the way I viewed myself. My friend went on to list things off, that to me, were ordinary. My eyes, my smile, my hands, the muscles on my arms and calves. The way when I smiled my eyes sparkled and when I listened to others that my compassion was evident in my face and body language. It was my hair when I let it be messy and the curve of my waist. My friend captured and described things I had never thought of as beautiful, they were either expected or just regular. What has stayed with me about that experience was that I felt beautiful. Not because my make up was perfect or my clothes were exactly right but I could see those things described through my friend’s eyes, more importantly I felt them. Even better… I still do. Some times it is true, you have to see things through another’s eyes gain a new perspective. Beauty to me is a feeling, I can use all the tools I have in my arsenal from flat irons, to Botox to concealers (and I do!) but honestly those tools only enhance what you have, the feeling that you have inside of you about yourself is really what is beautiful. So when someone tells you that you are beautiful, believe them and not only believe them but allow yourself, give yourself permission to feel it. Beauty is not always in the eyes of the beholder, it is right there inside of you.

Ashley Evert and Her Thoughts on “Beauty”

IMG_1496 copy

Beauty isn’t as simple as a shade of lipstick, a certain hair style or an expensive pair of shoes.  It is not an overly photoshopped unrealistic

“ideal woman”

on the front page of a magazine.

As a beautician, I see people’s “befores” and they expect me to be able to create an “after” that reflects the way they feel about themselves on the inside. For me, beauty is being able to outwardly portray the way you feel about yourself.

For me, that means a full face of makeup (lipstick, false eyelashes, the whole nine yards), rich crimson colored hair, and a wardrobe inspired by clothes from the 1940’s and 50’s.

The star sports athlete grinning with a medal around his or her neck, showing off the physique they worked hard to get is beauty.

A women who struggled with body confidence issues modeling in clothes she feels sexy in is beauty.  Ladies who choose to go “au natural” because they feel more comfortable without makeup on is beauty.

Beauty is recognizing that everyone should feel comfortable in his or her own skin.

True beauty is achieved when we stop judging each other for how we each choose to portray how we feel about ourselves to the world.
